Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Define and discuss medical/health informatics.
Explain the differences between systems and application software.
Discuss uses of a differences among patient electronic record systems.
State the uses of telecommunications and networking.
Discuss the ethical, professional, and legal responsibilities of the health care worker with regards to information in the medical record.
Discuss the importance of technology and the impact of computer systems on patient care and treatment.
Define telemedicine and give examples of its uses in health care.
Discuss the applications for technology in various health care settings to include radiology, surgery, pharmacy, and rehab therapies, as well as public health.
Retrieve patient data using systems appropriate to the health care setting.
Demonstrate the input use of information systems for basic medical resources and data collection.
Navigate Henry Ford College network and the student portal.
Operate basic PC hardware, including common input, output, and storage devices.
Utilize an operating system to perform basic tasks, such as finding, saving, copying, and printing files.
Send and receive email, including attachments.
